Zakynthos Greek island
Zakynthos Greek island in the Ionain sea is also known affectionately as Zante . This Greek island is also a ‘must see’ island in Greece. It is famous for the Loggerhead Caretta-Caretta turtles and Navagio [the Shipwreck beach/smugglers cove] which is shown on postcards all over the world. We visited Navagio by boat with Levante Speedboat Excursions and on our own in a self drive boat from Porto Vromi. We also went to the viewing platform to get ‘that picture’ looking down on Navagio.[ see photo]
Zakynthos is located in the Ionian Islets, located in the Ionian Sea and the Gulf of Corinth. These Ionian islands include Kefalonia, Lefkada, Corfu, Paxos and Anti Paxos. There are flights all over the UK to these islands but we generally fly from Gatwick. Zakynthos has an airport located in the Kalamaki area. There are many other tourist areas on the island such as Tsilivi, Alykes, Alikanas, Kalamaki, and Argassi.
Zakynthos Greek island is a lovely island for all ages, and those looking for scenic sights and night life. Cape Skinari is a nice place to visit right at the north of the island. Good snorkelling. Porto Limionas and Porto Roxa are two of our favourite places to swim and relax at. Beautiful Keri has a lighthouse and panoramic restaurant overlooking Mizithres rocks. Stunning sandy beaches, harbour and tavernas. We love it in Kalamaki.
We renewed our wedding vows in Zante, our third visit to this beautiful island, when we went with family. We used Alexandra Dream Weddings.
Laganas is the main party resort, and the capital of Zakynthos is Zakynthos town.
On my pages I have given you an insight to where we visited on Zakynthos Greek island and what we did, including boat hire. We also took the ferry to Kefalonia for the day. [ see my Kefalonia page] We visited Zante in Sept 2012 where it rained every day for a week, and returned a week earlier, the next September, and had a lovely hot week.
We have stayed at the Agrilia hotel 2012 and Kalamaki beach hotel 2013 and 2016. We love to go off exploring and I always research where others have been by reading the reviews and looking at pictures. I then paste them on to a word document and save until needed so I have an idea of where to go, how to get there etc. I believe in seeing as much as I can of a place. I haven’t yet ventured on the east coast much, other than going to Banana beach.
