Skiathos Sporades island is located in the west Aegean Sea. Located in the group known as the Sporades area of the Greek islands, along with Alonnisos.

The main international airport is at Skiathos where many plane enthusiasts wait for the low lying planes to land on one of Europe’s shortest runways. There are many videos on the internet, here is one such¬†website. To get to Skopelos and Alonnisos, you will need to take the ferry. Skopelos is famed for the location of the filming of Mamma Mia.

You can visit the church on the hill that was filmed for the wedding, it’s called Agios Ioannis and has 100 steps. Kastani beach was where the pier dancing scene was filmed, but the pier is now no longer there. There are many tourist Mamma Mia boat trips but we will be exploring some of these on our own. Lalaria beach is supposed to be one of the prettiest beaches, accessible only by boat, which we are hoping to visit.

Both Skiathos and Skopelos have the lush green valleys, red roofed white buildings and very picturesque harbours and towns.
