Odyssey Greek restaurant, Telford

Odyssey Greek restaurant Telford, is the nicest Greek restaurant in UK, I have been to.

Please see bottom of page for new premises and new opening times. This review is based on the old premises.

Decorated in the Mediterranean colours of blue and white. There are TV’s on the wall showing a rolling display of scenes from Cyprus and Greece. It is spacious with plenty of room and tables to choose from.

The owners

The owners, Andri and Panayiotis are from Oroklini in Cyprus and the ambiance is really authentic. Proper Greek food and plenty of it. Real Greek /Cypriot people and music. Party nights are now on Fridays and Saturdays which include live Greek music, sometimes plate smashing and dancing.

I took some videos whilst there. [ old premises] Staff are very polite and courteous and booking a table was easy.

Odyssey do celebrations well. For my sister’s birthday, seven of us went and we had a brilliant night.

Party nights

On Party nights the menu is a meze which consists of several small dishes of starters and several dishes of mains. One of our party was a vegetarian and they cooked her a vegetarian moussaka along with extra halloumi and mushrooms. Another was a child and they catered for her-she had a chicken souvlaki.

The food

Starters included pitta bread, dips, seafood, sausage and Lountza, kalamari, Greek salad, a mixed beans dish.

Mains included Stifado, gyros chicken, chicken and peas, chicken souvlaki, rice, potatoes. First time we went, we also had  lamb kleftiko.

Go with an empty stomach!

All of it was very flavorsome and plenty of it, perhaps a little too much if I’m honest and it was a shame to see so much left over. To put it another way, all of us were stuffed full.

Whose birthday is it?

Nothing was too much trouble, the staff were attentive, polite and very friendly. Attention to detail, they gave my 9 year old niece a pretty fruit juice cocktail- a lovely gesture. My sister’s birthday cake lit with candles when prompted [ bought in by us] was discretely carried out as a surprise.

Happy birthday

A band member called out the names of everyone celebrating a birthday and then got them up to do a Greek dance, before everyone else joined in. Everyone was linking arms and following one of the staff ‘snaking’ all around the restaurant and bar area. ‘The snake’ even went outside the restaurant and came back in. It was brilliant fun.

Odyssey Greek Restaurant Telford-party night

The atmosphere was just fabulous. Party night means meze; A set meal of several starter dishes to share, followed by several main dishes- a lovely way to taste authentic Cypriot cuisine. A round of shots on the house was brought to us and our group was treated very well.

Meze prices

Meze on party night is £22.95 per person on a Friday /Saturday. A meal in the week, which we have been to before, was £17.99. Check current prices as these are based on the first premises. There is a vast selection of drinks to choose from on the menu.

Panayiotis got me up to do a solo dance in the middle of the room, which was daunting but I entered in to the spirit of things and it was a good laugh.

Some of the staff do Greek dancing also, to illustrate to you, how it’s done.

Odyssey Greek restaurant Telford-plate smashing

Everyone was handed a plate and stood in a circle. A small hammer was passed around to crack your plate held over a basket to try and contain most of the broken pieces. It was good fun and of course obligatory at a Greek themed party night. The kids loved it.

A key point to note: Would advise to book a table especially on party nights for this lovely warm welcome at Odyssey Greek restaurant.

Where are they located?

Find a very warm welcome, at their new premises:

After having only been a few times so far, I love this restaurant.

review UPDATED 2018

Moved premises

Last time we went, we arranged to meet my best friend Penny and her family who had come over for Christmas, from New Zealand. Eight of us went including children. Odyssey has moved a couple of doors down in to a smaller restaurant with lots of tables for dining. It was December, hence, a good Christmas party atmosphere.

Still dancing and music

Up to the present time, there is only a small area to dance in. Moreover, we still enjoyed the snaking in and out of tables and out through the door, and dancing to the live band. Meanwhile, the staff are the same and the meals, but just my preference, I preferred the other premises. More room to dance around the circular bar!

However, same great atmosphere and hospitality. The staff were mindful of the close proximity of the tables and careful with limiting the plate smashing demonstration.

Certainly, we will be returning in the near future. To be sure of a table and warm welcome, please book to avoid disappointment. Parking spaces are available on the car park or the multi storey opposite side of the road.

New opening times

On Odyssey’s website it now says open Friday and Saturdays from 6pm.

From Sunday – Thursday only advanced bookings of 10 or more people or private functions.

Thank you Andri and Panayiotis for very memorable nights at Odyssey.

Finally, to note: I have not been asked by Odyssey to do this review, or paid to – this is my own account of wonderful celebration nights here with my family/friends and are my opinions only.
