Day trip to Kefalonia

Day trip to Kefalonia

During our one day trip to Kefalonia from Zante, we stopped briefly and had lunch at Agia Efimia, at Captain Corelli’s which was lovely. We had a wander around the harbour and then went on our way to Sami and Melissani cave. Agia Efimia has a lovely sea side charm about it, with the harbour, the mountains, the restaurants on the water front and shops.

We met a lovely Englishman who had sailed on his yacht  for the last 4 years stopping off wherever life took him, what a lovely way to enjoy life.

At Agia Efimia there are plenty of restaurants and taverna’s. We parked in a side street but I believe there is plenty of free parking near the harbour.

Day trip to Kefalonia-where we visited

On our day trip to Kefalonia, so far it had taken us from the port, to Myrtos beach, through a mountainous road stopping off at a church, to Agia Efimia, and then on to Melissani Cave and Sami. In Sami we just headed for a cafe on the waterfront and sat watching a large ferry depart. We batted away the many wasps that were annoying us. We then went on to Argostoli for the last hour, where we sat by a big type of lake or reservoir,  before heading back to the catch the ferry back to Zante. We had read so many reviews about what to do on a 1 day visit, but I am so glad we saw Myrtos beach and Melissani cave, these were definitely the highlights.

Because, I was conscious of the ferry departing and not sure of the distances, I suppose we could have fitted in more things to see. After all Myrtos isn’t far from Assos, another place I wanted to see. However, it has given us an insight in to what a holiday might be like so we can explore all the other places in Kefalonia, we didn’t get to see. So hopefully we can come back and spend at least a week in Kefalonia to see places we haven’t yet seen like Assos, Fiskardo, Lixouri, Pessada and Skala.
