Kefaloniamyrtos beach

Kefalonia [sometimes also spelt Cephalonia] another superb island located in the Ionian Sea and in the group of Ionian Islets. Other islands include Zakynthos, Lefkada and Corfu. Ithaca island is located north east of Kefalonia and reached by boat.

Kefalonia is the largest island in this group. Argostoli is the cosmopolitan capital.

It is famous for the filming of the film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin-we visited a cafe in Agia Efthima of the same name.. Myrtos beach is one of the most photographed beaches and a visit to Drogorati and Melissani caves are very interesting.

Kefalonia has many lush green forest backdrops and is very mountainous so a car is useful for getting around. As in the Ionian area, the sea colours are exotic shades of turquoise and deep blue, and stunning white sandy beaches. Flights from the UK are regular and approx 3 hours in flying.

Kefalonian resorts

Fiskardo is an upmarket resort with a marina, and other resorts include Skala, Lassi, Assos and Lixouri. We stopped off at Sami on the east coast and Agia Efthima on our travels. I have seen pictures on the internet of many of these resorts and would love to explore and visit one day and Assos just looks so picture perfect.

We visited Kefalonia just for the day from Zakynthos on the ferry. The trip was approximately an hour and half early morning leaving Kefalonia approximately 5pm to come back to Zante. We would love to return there and have a holiday to see all the other wonderful places we haven’t yet seen. I have just added photos and videos of the places we went to on our day trip. I think you can go on an organized coach trip, but i spent ages researching on the internet of where we wanted to go, we took a map and off we went exploring on our own.
