Agios Georgios boat trip
Agios Georgios boat trip is one I will never forget. We saw 2 boats, the Agios Georgios and Barbarossa in the harbour at Agia Marina one evening, advertising day trips to the White Islands, which are north of Leros.
One was scheduled for the next day at 11am and we weren’t sure if you had to book, nevertheless, we just turned up and luckily there was space for the two of us. It cost 20 euros each to include drinks and snacks. There were to be 3 stops and the 3rd stop was for lunch.
The boat was not overcrowded and there was plenty of room for all to sit. We actually followed the Barbarossa boat to the White islands. It took approximately an hour 15 minutes to reach the first stop –White Island named Aspronisia.

Goodness, I’ve seen some contrasting turquoise sea and white pebbly beaches many times, but this was breath-taking. We had a long swimming stop and could walk on the white pebbly beach. The Captain’s wife told me that the beach had expanded since last year. When I asked why she said ‘it’s a natural phenomenon’. I couldn’t believe how crystal clear the sea was, lovely shades of turquoise.
The next stop was soon after, again for swimming. Clear waters in Tiganakia. Next, the crew served us a platter of local food-salads, fish, meat, cheese, drinks and water melon.
The third stop was at Marathi for lunch and the beach –or time to do whatever you wanted to and it was a 2 hour stop, before getting back on the boat at 5pm. We had lunch in one of the restaurants called Stavragos which had lovely views. Then we spent the remainder of our time on the beach, before a long sail back.
The arrival time back at Agia Marina at 7pm. We thoroughly enjoyed this boat trip and as a result would highly recommend to others.
